About Si Long

Hello there! I'm Si Long, your committed and friendly Geography tutor. I can't wait to support you to enhance your knowledge of the worlds that we live in and support you to achieve great results in your exams. Let me introduce myself and share my experiences with you and how this shapes my teaching.

I am a recently graduated doctoral researcher whose research specialism was in human geography. I've had the incredible opportunity to work alongside charities, organisations, and communities to put vital research into practice and improve living conditions for people experiencing homelessness in the UK. My research specialisms include; feminist geographies, the psychology of place, homelessness and housing, creative arts in research, the creative and cultural industries, and participatory action methodologies. I have also completed an undergraduate degree which focused on both human and physical geographies.

I have worked as a visiting lecturer, teaching assistant, and reflective tutor, working with both undergraduate students, research fellows, and A-level students looking to access higher education. As a result of this work, I was awarded an Advance Higher Education certification for teaching excellence.

Previously, I worked as a youth support worker and worked with young people to support them to develop skills such as independent living, wellbeing, team-building and social action.

Come learn in an interactive and friendly environment.

I understand that everyone learns differently. In our first session, I will meet you to discuss what your needs and goals are from our sessions. We will work together to identify your learning style and current skill level.

This information will help me create a personalized curriculum that is tailored to your needs, goals, and syllabus of your course where relevant.

We'll start from where you feel confident in your learning and we will gradually build upon your knowledge. I believe in a step-by-step approach that supports your confidence in learning more complex topics.

We will learn theory which is essential, and we will put this into practice during our sessions. We'll explore examples of how geography is applied to real-world situations so you can see how vital this knowledge is.

Expect a friendly and interactive atmosphere in our sessions. I encourage you to ask questions, share ideas, and bring topics that you are also interested in learning about to the space.

I love to engage my students in creative and interactive ways of learning, and I am very aware of neurodivergence, disability and the importance of accessibility in education settings.

I can teach either physical or human geography, but specialise in human geography; politics, social geographies, psychological geographies, and development.

I'm very patient and understand the stress of exams/coursework and am more than happy to go above and beyond for my students to help them achieve the best grades possible.

I am more than happy to give advice on University- personal statements, CVs etc. Can negotiate the teaching of other subjects for GCSEs if needed, message me for more details.

As a tutor I will be:

Passionate and patient: I love what I teach and I am patient with all my students.

Supportive: I am a tutor who genuinely cares and I am here to support you through this process.

Industry Experienced: I have worked as a researcher, lecturer, and in several charities who rely on geographical research. I'll share insights into industry best practices and talk about current affairs that are relevant to you and your interests.

Holistic: I teach Geography but I encourage you to learn many different skills such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and academic writing. These skills can be used for a range of industries and life experiences.

Let's schedule a trial lesson to get to know each other better. We can discuss your goals and begin a plan to support you through this journey. Click the "Book Now" button to take the first step! I'm looking forward to meeting you and working together.
