About Marike
I have a variety of interests, including music, design, travel, chess and reflexology. I experience much personal joy when i can contribute to others reaching their own potential in life. Teaching French is therefor very rewarding for me and I believe that my passion for the language can be quite contagious.

I started learning French as an additional language at school, in 1993, before the age of the internet, with limited exposure to French speakers. Being able to hear and understand spoken French was therefor a skill I had to work hard for, even though my reading and writing skills were already quite good. I continued my French studies and completed my third year at university. I married a Frenchman in 2008, which allowed me to experience French culture from a new angle, and also greatly improve my French. I have also had the privilege of observing how my own children learned French from their father in a natural way, and have come to understand the importance of learning French holistically (reading, writing, speaking, understanding, culture, and more). I obtained my DALF C1 diploma in 2020 and have completed various teaching courses presented by the Alliance Française. I am confident that I will be able to assist a variety of students to identify and overcome their individual obstacles on the path to learning French, whether for basic conversational purposes, or to achieve their best academic results. My home language is Afrikaans and I am also fluent in English. I have been teaching students between the ages of 2 and 40, over many years.
