Mrs. Rowley taught me Biology for three years, during which she boosted my confidence in the subject, and impacted my learning abilities. When I began studying Biology at GCSE level, I regarded it as ‘just another’ subject, but Mrs. Rowley’s engaging, effective teaching style drew me into the subject. More specifically, Mrs. Rowley made science tangible, supporting points on her detailed presentations with real-life applications and reference to news articles or journals. My peers and I initially regarded Biology as a “memorising” science, but in Mrs. Rowley’s classroom, the thought-provoking discussions she encouraged motivated us to go beyond memorising - to grasp the theory and seek its applications. Supplemented by regular homework exercises, we completed the course with confidence in Mrs. Rowley’s class, and I attribute my A* at IGCSE and A in AS to her guidance.

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Rowley’s guidance greatly impacted me as a learner. Her lessons piqued my interest in science, and after lessons, I had several questions which she always took time to patiently answer. There were many times when she photocopied extracts from other textbooks just to further my understanding, listened to my ideas, or asked me questions that increased my curiosity and drive to further pursue science. My notebook of science-related ideas is the partly the result of many Q&A sessions.

Under Mrs. Rowley’s guidance, I greatly developed as a learner and person. Her excellent teaching coupled with a good sense of humour and positive spirit makes her a valuable tutor to any student.
