About Tom
I’m an enthusiastic Geography and Sociology teacher with a First-Class degree in Sociology and a Master’s in Gender Studies. I also have a PGCE and experience as an AQA examiner. I chose teaching because I genuinely believe that education can transform lives. I’ve always been fascinated by how societies function and change, and I wanted to share that passion with others, especially in subjects that shape our understanding of the world. Teaching gives me the opportunity to make a real difference, not just by helping students understand content, but by building their confidence and critical thinking skills. I love seeing students grow, both academically and personally, and I’m dedicated to providing them with the tools they need to succeed in their exams and beyond. I started teaching because I believe in the power of education to shape a brighter future. I’m committed to helping students unlock their full potential and inspire them to take on new challenges.

In my tutoring sessions, I aim to create a structured and engaging learning environment where every student is supported to reach their full potential. I set high standards in all lessons, ensuring that the content is challenging yet accessible for all abilities. Through scaffolding, I tailor each session to meet the needs of the student, helping them progress step by step and reach their goals. I begin each lesson with retrieval practice and pre-unit quizzes to assess prior knowledge, and then move into a carefully planned structure. Each session includes a hook question to ignite curiosity and guide the learning journey. Lessons are typically 1 hour long, but can be adapted depending on the student’s needs. My methodology includes guided annotation of text, questioning, and regular hinge questions to ensure understanding. I provide frequent feedback to help students improve their work and build confidence in their abilities. As an AQA examiner with a PGCE in Geography, I offer a comprehensive approach to GCSE Geography and GCSE Sociology tutoring, focusing on exam techniques and aligning all lessons with the AQA specification. These lessons are for GCSE students, typically aged 14-16, but I can also offer support for other age groups seeking to improve their understanding of the subject or exam techniques.
