  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in private tutoring and teaching began during the Pandemic in 2020. As education shifted to a virtual platform, I began to realize the significance of academic support in multiple contexts. I learned the value of creating a virtual learning space for learners of all ages. I taught during the pandemic as a special education teacher online and it was an insightful experience to witness. I was humbled by the complexity of online learning and wanted to continue to better myself as a provider to meet the needs of my students. Now, as an online tutor/teacher, I work with my students and their families to offer individualized care.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English (preschool - graduate), Writing (Academic, interview, and essay), Psychology (specializing in developmental), Human development, and Disability Studies. I like to discuss the writing process with students to see where they are in their literary journey. This helps me as a tutor understand how to best meet their needs.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My role model was my 10th grade math teacher. I was working part time while going to high school. My teacher was flexible in meeting me early before school and late after school to ensure I could catch up on my work and understand the material. Thus, I learned the value of recognizing the whole student outside of the lesson plan as well.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

To be a good tutor I believe an individual should be mindful, respectful, and insightful. Tutoring is like a relationship between two parties. It is important to listen, respond, and adapt to meet the needs of the learner.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Never sacrifice your health for your education because you cannot pour from an empty cup. In order to be the best student, you have to also tend to your physical and mental health. This was a lesson I learned in academia that I seek to pass onto my students.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The field of academia is ever changing with new policies and revisions taking place daily. I work steadily to educate myself about these revisions and ensure my pedagogical approaches are aligned with current state standards and nationwide policies.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am passionate about English because it is a difficult topic to teach, learn, and engage with. There are so many varied forms of English from spoken, academic, formal, informal, layman's terms, and so on. I enjoy teaching English because it helps me bridge the learning gap we have nationwide.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I am a Superprof because I have experience being both a student and a teacher. I am no stranger to the learing process and focus my sessions on meeting the needs of the learner especially.
