About Laura
I am a native Spanish speaker with roots tracing back to Mexico. I grew up in a culturally rich home filled with Spanish music, television, and literature, so I was constantly listening to and speaking Spanish on a daily basis. As I have grown older, I have developed a deep appreciation for the culture and language, and I am eager to share that passion with others. Before entering the public education system, I spent nearly 20 years in healthcare, with the last 10 years focused in the operating room. During this time, I took on a significant educational role, teaching in the classroom, lab setting, and live operating room. I possess a great deal of patience, understanding, and empathy—qualities that are essential for any educator.

As an ESL teacher, my approach is centered on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student’s proficiency level. I focus on building foundational skills in English, starting with the simplest sounds and letter correspondences.
My lessons are designed to enhance various aspects of language acquisition, including listening and reading comprehension. I incorporate interactive activities that encourage students to practice speaking in social conversations, allowing them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
I also utilize a wide range of visual resources to reinforce learning, making concepts more accessible and engaging for students. By breaking down complex language elements into manageable steps and providing consistent encouragement, I aim to boost students' confidence and help them improve their English proficiency.
My goal is to empower students to communicate effectively and feel comfortable using English in their daily lives.
