About Emma
I've had a passion for writing my whole life. At Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in the Creative Writing program, I was able to develop my own fiction, rhetoric, and composition skills, as well as discovering a love for tutoring others.
I now am a rising Junior English and Film Studies double major at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I would absolutely love to work with middle to high school aged students in Houston virtually or in person, at the preference and comfort of the student.

Writing doesn't come easily to everyone, but I believe everyone has the capability to be a strong writer and reader. I value patience and compassion in my lessons. Like music, writing is as much an art as it is a science; it doesn't have to be scary or intangible. I like to break down the easily digestible rules of essay writing and figure out the techniques that work best for each individual student. Getting better at writing is holistic. And it should be fun! Whether it's summer school or essay writing prep for the next school year, there's plenty of value in working on skills over the summer without cutting into this important time to relax and enjoy yourself in the hot Houston sun.
SAT prep, meanwhile, can be daunting; it's an important exam, but it's also very predictable and straight forward. It only takes patience and practice in order to master. It is only as scary as you let it be. Practice is absolutely key, practice practice practice! I draw from dozens of past Reading and Writing SAT portions available online in order to highlight the patterns and techniques students should adopt going forward. I also find R&W SAT Prep works best in groups as well, where students can grow together and even end up teaching each other.
I'm a natural introvert, and I love working with students who have a hard time getting out of their shell. I get it! So I like lessons to be relaxed. If things get overwhelming or too frustrating, we stop. The wellbeing of the student is #1.
