Find out more about Prafulla

  • 1. When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Hi, I'm Prafulla Pise. My interest in STEM subjects, especially maths and physics, began early in school. I was always fascinated by how numbers and scientific principles could explain the world around us. My journey into private tutoring started in university when I helped classmates prepare for exams. I realised I loved breaking down tough concepts and seeing that "aha!" moment when someone finally understood. That's when I knew tutoring was something I wanted to pursue seriously.
  • 2. Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics, physics, mechanics, and statistics, mostly at GCSE, A-level, and university level. I enjoy discussing real-world applications of maths and physics-like how calculus is used in engineering or how mechanics explains everyday phenomena. I love topics that challenge students to think critically, such as problem-solving in calculus or understanding the laws of motion. I'll admit, I find rote memorisation topics a bit less exciting, but I always try to make even those engaging!
  • 3. Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely. I had a fantastic physics teacher in school who made complex ideas feel simple and fun. He encouraged curiosity and never dismissed any question, no matter how basic. His passion for teaching and his patience inspired me to adopt a similar approach with my students.
  • 4. What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor needs patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills. It's important to listen to students, understand their unique challenges, and adapt your teaching style accordingly. Being able to explain concepts in different ways and encourage students to ask questions is key. And, of course, enthusiasm helps make learning enjoyable!
  • 5. Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Once, a student of mine was struggling with algebra and had almost given up on maths. We worked together, focusing on the basics and building confidence step by step. By the end of the year, not only had they improved their grades, but they also started enjoying maths and even helped their classmates. That experience reinforced for me how transformative patient, personalised tutoring can be.
  • 6. What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One ongoing challenge is keeping up with changes in exam formats and syllabuses. STEM fields evolve, and so do the ways they're taught and assessed. I make it a point to stay updated and adapt my teaching methods, but it's a constant process. Also, every student learns differently, so finding the right approach for each individual can be challenging, but it's also what makes tutoring rewarding.
  • 7. Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My greatest passion is helping students unlock their potential. I love seeing them grow in confidence and ability. Within my subjects, I particularly enjoy showing how maths and physics connect to real-world problems-making abstract concepts tangible and relevant.
  • 8. What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is my commitment to every student's success. With over 3600+ hours of tutoring experience, I bring patience, adaptability, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching. I strive to make every lesson engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student's needs. I believe learning should be enjoyable, and I do my best to inspire that in everyone I teach.
