About Jessica
Hello, I'm Jessica! I have one year of university (undergraduate)
tutoring experience specializing in Biology and Psychology. I majored in biology and completed my Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto. Now I am studying at New York University as an occupational therapy student. I also completed my Bachelor of Engineering degree in China. So I am a very "science" and "engineering" person. My teaching methodology and techniques include making friends with students for better communications, asking heuristic questions to facilitate students' thinking, setting the objective for each lesson and checking students' understandings at the end of each class, using videos, pictures, stories to make the lesson more engaging.
A typical lesson plan of mine includes outlining the learning objective for the lesson, starting with an interesting "hook" to attract students' attentions, interacting with students to make them understand the materials of the lesson, reviewing and checking students' understandings.
I am a mother who has a 12-year-old son, so I will be more tolerant and patient with children/teenagers because I understand them and will take care of them better. In addition, I am an occupational therapy student at NYU. I had experience working with kids with mental disabilities. For those kids, it is more difficult to recognize, understand and help them manage their emotions. It is also more challenging to figure out ways to motivate them. So, being able to help those kids makes me unique.
I can provide lessons to high school students (biology, chemistry and maths) and undergraduate students (biology, chemistry, human anatomy). I can also teach mandarin for anyone who wants to learn.
