About Brooks
I bring 9 years of teaching guitar with a background in both classical and contemporary styles. My passion for guitar began in my early teens, inspired by a diverse range of musicians across genres. Over the years, I’ve performed locally, collaborated with other musicians, and studied music theory extensively. Teaching has allowed me to pass on this passion and knowledge to students of all ages and skill levels. My approach balances technical mastery with creativity. I believe music should be enjoyable and expressive, so I tailor lessons to each student's musical tastes and goals. I focus on developing good technique early to prevent bad habits and encourage exploration beyond structured lessons. Whether students want to learn popular songs, master fingerpicking, or write their own music, I support their journey with patience and personalised feedback. I’ve had the privilege of watching many students grow from complete beginners to confident performers. Sharing in their successes—whether it’s a first solo or a gig with friends—is what motivates me daily. I’m committed to creating a supportive learning environment where music becomes a source of joy, expression, and connection.

I emphasise ear training and music theory alongside practical skills, helping students understand the language of music and how to create their own arrangements. Improvisation sessions encourage personal expression and spontaneity, pushing learners to experiment confidently. Performance preparation is an integral part of my teaching. I offer guidance on stage presence, live playing, and recording techniques to help students share their music with others. Throughout lessons, students build a repertoire of songs and original compositions that showcase their progress.
