About Yvette
As a public school K - 5 Music teacher and Math guru, I was honored as Teacher of the Year for my school district. I was recognized for my ability to use songs to help students in all subjects (Math, Language Arts, Science, and History). My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Music, and I earned a doctorate in Education/Instructional Leadership. Two years ago, a former student, now a mom of an elementary school daughter, contacted me to let me know that she remembered my Music class and the skip-counting songs I taught. She even recited the 4s skip-counting song right there on the spot!

My teaching methods center around getting to know my students' and what they need the most help with and what type of learner they are. We all tend to know the lyrics to our favorite songs quite easily, so I use the technique of singing to help students retain the skip-counting facts.
A typical lesson begins with a familiar song. Then, together, the student and I change the lyrics and sing the skip-counting numbers instead. I use pictures representative of each song (for example, skip-counting by 4s begins with singing Old MacDonald with farm pictures highlighting 4, 8, 12, 16, etc.).
Music and fun pictures set me apart from your average Math tutor.
My lessons are for 2nd through 5th graders who can use skip-counting songs to add and/or multiply more easily.
