About Dominique
- What kind of experience do you have?
As a musician: I am a professional drummer who has been performing for 35 years internationally in all imaginable contexts: tours with household names, TV shows, radio shows, clubs, circus, pro marching band, functions, music festivals, jazz concerts... I established the 1st ever world record of the longest drum solo in France (French Guinness Book 1986) - 24hours 40min on the sea on a catamaran named 'Jaz'. I am fluent in most styles of music: Rock, Funk, R & B, Disco, Soul, Jazz etc. I currently manage and perform with a dance covers band, a jazz quartet and an original alternative project. As a teacher: 20+ years of teaching experience. Aside from my private practice, I have also taught drums to year 7 and 8 students at Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton twice a week for 2 years. I also teach special needs children - Dyslexia and autism.
Ben Pearson, Jack Summerfield and Carlos Alberici are the other teachers (see our web site for more info)
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. number 0(concealed information)3ne.Each of our teachers has one.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Kenny Clark and Dante Agostini in Paris.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am today a member of Ampband and have been a Musician Union member for more than 20 years.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My students are great! The youngest is 4 1/2, the wisest is 76. Most of my adult students range 18-38 including 30% females and quite a few in their 50s and 60s.
For those who wish to take this route, I prepare them for the Grades 1 to 8 at Trinity College London or the Rock School.
We have had 100% success so far, 99% with merit or distinction.
Some students want to become pro-drummers, some just do it for fun in their garage, or plan to simply put together a band with friends and play in local pubs etc.
My students stay with me for a while...6, 8, 10 years... they become friends of course and I am happy to guide them whenever they consider music as a career.
About 50% start playing in a band within 2-3 years after starting to study drums at the school.
My 1st UK student is Yusseff Dayes who is the drummer of United Vibrations and played with Aloa black. He has performed at many festivals and in National TV channels here and abroad (late with Jools Holland (UK), Nagui (France) etc. He also got a full page feature in Drummer Magazine UK in January 2011.
