About Amanda
Hello! My name is Amanda, and I am an educational professional with a strong academic background in biology, laboratory science, and higher education.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Medical Sciences, a Master of Science in Applied Laboratory Science and Operations, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have worked in laboratory settings, scientific research, higher education, student advising, and academic support roles. My experiences have allowed me to develop a deep understanding of both biological concepts and the learning strategies students need to succeed in science courses.
I am passionate about helping students build confidence in biology and related life science subjects. I understand that biology can feel overwhelming due to the amount of information involved, so I focus on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorize facts. My goal is to make complex topics more approachable, engaging, and relevant.
Whether you are preparing for exams, struggling with a particular topic, working to improve your grades, or simply looking to strengthen your understanding of biology, I provide patient, supportive instruction tailored to your individual learning needs. My biology lessons are designed to help students develop a strong understanding of scientific concepts while building the study skills necessary for long-term academic success.
I use a student-centered teaching approach that focuses on breaking complex topics into manageable pieces, identifying knowledge gaps, and reinforcing learning through discussion, practice questions, diagrams, real-world examples, and active problem-solving. I believe students learn biology most effectively when they understand how concepts connect rather than relying solely on memorization.
A typical lesson begins with a review of current challenges or course material, followed by focused instruction on key concepts. We then work through examples, practice questions, or assignments together to strengthen understanding and application. Lessons conclude with a summary of important takeaways and recommendations for continued study.
What sets me apart is my combination of scientific training and educational experience. In addition to my academic background in biology and laboratory science, I have spent years supporting students in higher education through advising, mentoring, tutoring, and academic success initiatives. This allows me to help students not only understand biology but also develop effective study strategies, critical thinking skills, and confidence in their learning.
