About Deepak

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have over 25-years experience of teaching. Over 99% of my past students have scored A*/A grades. This year, 73% of them scored the top A* grade. Even if I do say it myself, that is an outstanding success rate!

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I hold a full CRB check, which is clear.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Math'scool's results this year were truly outstanding; especially given we don't cherry-pick our students...
In GCSE maths, 13 students got A** (Level 9), 3 students got A* (Level 8) and no-one got below Level 8!
In A-level, 13 students achieved A*, 4 scored A and 4 got B.
We've have prepared students who have earned places to study maths at Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College and Warwick. But I've also helped students to get the grade they need in maths to study Medicine, Economics etc. I keep in touch with many of my ex-students and have been to quite a few of their weddings!

I was winner of the National Lecturer of the Year (a competition held among all UK universities) for my multi-faceted approach to teaching:
This means brilliant teaching, but much more: I set work and support my students during the week with the hmk.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Maths. Only maths. GCSE Maths. A-level Maths. Further Maths (A-level). AEA and STEP (still maths).
I specialise in teaching just one subject, so I can do it expertly and provide all of the out-of-lesson backup support that makes my multi-faceted teaching so effective.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I read Engineering at London University (and scored a first).
My Ph.D. was in Medical Physics.
I lectured at London University until I realised that it is in teaching 11-17 years olds that the biggest impact can be made.
So now I run Math'scool at the weekends, and One-2-One tutor during the weekday (Monday-Tuesday) evenings.

- How much do you charge?

It varies. I run small group tuition classes (around 8-10 students per class) at the weekend which work around £18 per hour (each lesson is around 3-hours). But we mark the students work outside of the lesson and we spend a lot of time preparing for lessons and supporting our students outside the lesson. The rates go up as high as £160 per hour for specialist help (One-2-One tuition for Further Maths and STEP), but those students require a lot of out-of-lesson support and I don't charge extra for that...

- Where do you teach?

Math'scool's weekend classes are held at Quainton Hall School in central Harrow. One-2-One lessons are held either at my home in Harrow, or at the student's house (I can drive up to 15 minutes).

- When are you available?

Any time, but I generally don't teach during the school holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

11-18 year olds

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

11+ (maths), GCSE and A-level Maths. Further Maths (A level)

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Unlike everyone else, I can't promise I'll make maths fun. But I will make you as good at maths as you can be and, once you are good at the subject, then you might find you do like it...
...I find it happens that way around anyway - who ever heard of a student 'loving' a subject that they are struggling at?
