With a degree in theatre directing from UNCSA (University of North Carolina School of the Arts), a renowned conservatory-style institution, I am committed to establishing my legitimacy as a trusted mentor for kids and teens.
My journey into theatre coaching began with a profound fascination for the transformative power of the performing arts. At UNCSA, I underwent a rigorous and comprehensive training program that prepared me for a career in theatre directing. My teaching method revolves around fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. I believe that every student has a unique voice and perspective to bring to the stage. Through a blend of practical exercises, improvisation, script analysis, and character development techniques, I encourage my students to explore their creativity and find their own artistic expression.
In our lessons, we could delve into various aspects of theatre, covering everything from acting techniques to stagecraft. A lesson may begin with warm-up exercises and vocal training to enhance projection and articulation. We'll then move on to scene work, where we'll dissect scripts, explore character motivations, and develop believable performances. Additionally, we could delve into the intricacies of staging, body language, and the effective use of props and costume, etc. I am also more than happy to create a more director focused curriculum for those interested in directing a show one day.
My experience as a theatre director brings a unique perspective to my coaching. I have an in-depth understanding of the entire creative process, from the initial conceptualization to the final performance. This enables me to guide my students not only as performers but also as storytellers and artists. I strive to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere where students feel empowered to take risks and grow as actors. I believe in providing constructive feedback tailored to each student's needs, ensuring their continuous improvement and artistic development.
