About Neil
With 7 years of teaching and a strong academic background in Piano History, I offer a comprehensive approach to jazz piano. My studies in Musicology inform my respect for the instrument’s heritage. My passion lies in modern expression.
Improvisation and comping are at the heart of my lessons. We work on expanding harmonic vocabulary through rich voicings and advanced chord structures. You will gain tools to accompany and solo with confidence.
Holistic growth is essential. We explore jazz theory in action, strengthen ear training for altered and extended chords, and transcribe classic recordings. Rhythmic precision anchors your creativity.
I have supported Early Intermediate and Advanced Intermediate learners, as well as seasoned jazz professionals. Each student receives focused guidance. Step into spontaneous musical expression and elevate your piano playing.

My methodology connects theory directly to piano playing. I explain concepts clearly and apply them immediately. Learning becomes active and engaging.
We study intervals, scales, and key structures in a simple way. Then we explore chord progressions, inversions, and harmonic movement. You will learn to recognise patterns across pieces. Harmonic analysis becomes a helpful guide.
Students preparing for exams receive structured lesson plans and focused review sessions. Classical performers learn how theoretical insight deepens musical interpretation. Strong foundations lead to confident performances.
