About Joy
I specialise in maths and physics, which are often the subjects that people have the least confidence in. There is a belief that you must have a certain type of brain to be able to understand it, which is incorrect. Everyone has the ability to understand and even enjoy maths, some people just need a bit more time. I love breaking this misconception and watching students find joy in a subject that once brought them such anxiety. I don’t want learning to be a boring or forced activity, I want it to be seen as the pleasure and privilege that it is.

I strongly believe that understanding is more important than memorising. I want my lessons to leave people feeling brighter and smarter, with more confidence in their subject. I have tutored teenagers who thought they had no hope of getting better, and I loved watching them realise that they had a lot to give. I like my lessons to be structured, starting with the most difficult topic, breaking it down until they can teach it to others and then practising with guided examples.
