About Kristin
I've been playing violin and viola for 27 years. My parents were both public school music teachers, but I went to the Cleveland Institute of Music for performance. My sophomore year of undergrad, however, I realized I also had a passion for teaching and decided to develop both my skills as an performer and an educator moving forward. After receiving my Bachelors I started teaching and playing professionally to work my way through my Masters degree. After that I played violin professionally for three years with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida and then four years with the Florida Orchestra in Tampa, Florida, where I also taught in the public schools, I have returned to pursue my doctorate in teaching and performing at the University of Miami. I am passionate about music and believe anyone can play an instrument with great instruction. I am certified to teach violin and viola in all 10 books of the Suzuki method, but I have also taught violin, viola, cello and bass for 10+ years using more common methods found in school orchestra classrooms like Essential Elements. I am also comfortable using a blend of methods in order to meet each students unique background and needs. Music brings joy to our lives, therefore my goal is always to create a positive learning environment.
