About Abu
During my 9 months stay in Asia, I volunteered at a local school and shared my knowledge in the language of speaking English; this gave me an understanding of how to express things diplomatically and tactfully. I realised that education is something I believe deeply in, but it takes a unique passion to bring life to the subjects you are teaching. Being passionate about your subject area is also important when you teach. For instance, I realised that my students really enjoyed the lessons on my home country because I was passionate to share my language and culture with them. Seeing a shy student start to come out of her shell , after trying many tactics, gave me such a drive and realisation of how important and rewarding it is to be patient with children – because not only will it pay off in the long-run, it is truly an amazing achievement. The way I see the world has changed dramatically, and I have a whole new appreciation for the profession that many take for granted.

Example Spaced Learning Lesson
Say I wanted to teach a lesson on the differences between “would” and “could.” Here’s how my lesson might look:
Step 1 (15 minutes): Use the whiteboard to explain the official grammar rules.
Step 2 (5 minutes): Take a break to watch a video on the coffee culture of Seattle. (Yep, nothing to do with the grammar, just for fun.)
Step 3 (15 minutes): Review differences between “would” and “could” quickly. Take a short fill-in-the-blank quiz.
Step 4 (10 minutes): Play an easy improv game in English. (Also nothing to do with the grammar.)
Step 5 (15 minutes): Do a real-life role play situation involving “would” and “could.” You could choose a restaurant or work situation, depending on what best serves your students.
