About Thain
As someone who has been creative my whole life, the first thing I know about creativity is that it needs a safe, open space to allow ideas and try things without fear of judgment.
I like to be real, honest and treat people with kindness. I have an infectious joy and enthusiasm for acting work that I love to share.
I want to see my students grow in confidence and skill.

1. Beginner: Foundation
At this stage, the goal is to get you "out of your head" and comfortable being seen on camera naturally.
Organic Listening & Instincts: Exercises focused on reacting naturally to a partner rather than waiting for a turn to speak.
Physicality & Movement: Using household objects or props to explore how clothing and environment affect character movement.
Basic Text Analysis: Introduction to the "Five W's" (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and identifying simple character objectives.
Basic Memorization Techniques: How to tackle scripts head on and remember it while being present.
Improvisation: Simple games to build spontaneity and confidence, which are essential for commercial auditions.
2. Intermediate: Adding Depth & Technique
Once you are comfortable, we focus on specific methodologies and refining their emotional range.
Scene Study: Working on two-person scenes (often via breakout rooms or recorded homework) to apply objectives and tactics.
Vocal Development: Exercises for breath support, resonance, and articulation, which are critical for "General American" dialect work.
Character Biography: Researching and writing backstories to justify a character's intentions.
3. Advanced: Mastery & Professionalism
Advanced students should focus on industry standards and the nuances of professional performance.
Self-Tape Mastery: Advanced lighting, sound, and "chasing lines" exercises (running scenes at double speed to break rehearsed patterns).
Nuanced Script Analysis: Breaking down complex rhetoric to find how a character uses language for persuasion and memorization.
Advanced Memorization Techniques: Being able to work on a new script and have 6 pages memorized quickly and effectively.
Emotional Access: Advanced work with "sense memory" or "emotional memory" to trigger deep feelings in a safe, repeatable way.
4. Professional: The Business of Acting
Even the best actors need to understand the business to get hired.
Audition Technique: Preparing for high-stakes feature film or television auditions using multi-scene scripts.
Marketing Materials: Crafting a professional résumé, selecting headshots, and building a demo reel.
Industry Literacy: Understanding the roles of agents, casting directors, and union affiliations.
