About Irmak
I was born and raised in Turkey. I got my high school diploma from Robert College of Istanbul in 2020. I am currently studying at a cute little liberal arts college called Hamilton College in the United States, focusing on psychology and dance, but also taking classes in history, art history, and various social sciences. I am an aspiring psychologist, researcher and circus artist :)

It is very important for me that the lessons are based on conversational skills, I want to chat with you, not sit down and lecture. Isn't that what language is all about? Don't we learn a language when we can express ourselves in that language, not when we memorize the names of 10 animals, fruits, and vegetables? Not when we can ask for directions, but when we give that instinctive, pure, emotional reaction when something horrible or exciting happens in that language. I enjoy working with students of all levels and ages, and I would love to get to know different people. My lessons are not school or exam oriented, but really focused on learning to express yourself in a new way. Personally, I have benefited much more from the time I spent on social media, listening to native speakers, compared to the systematic education I received at school. I teach by considering language philosophy and the differences, shortcomings and redundancies between languages. We decide the format of the class with the student. We mostly chat and sometimes read short stories and listen to music. It feels like therapy to me, I hope it does for the student too :)
