I am David Shu, a dedicated tutor with experience in a variety of subjects, and a student at the University of Michigan studying computer science. I am passionate about learning and teaching, having been a tutor for math and piano, and now focusing on computer science. My approach is student-centric, empathetic, and tailored to individual learning styles. I strive to break down complex concepts, making them accessible and understandable. I understand the challenges students face when learning new concepts, as I have been there myself. This understanding fuels my commitment to help students overcome their struggles and succeed academically. As a tutor, I believe in a student-centered approach, where each lesson is tailored to the student's unique needs and learning style. I aim to make complex concepts approachable by breaking them down into smaller, manageable parts and using relatable examples. I utilize a blend of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice to help students understand and apply concepts.
A typical lesson with me begins with a brief review of the previous lesson to ensure understanding, followed by an introduction of the new concept or skill. I then demonstrate the concept through examples before moving on to guided practice. The lesson concludes with independent practice and a review of what was learned.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to empathize with the struggles that students face when learning complex subjects. Having faced these struggles myself, I am well-equipped to guide students through them and provide them with the strategies they need to overcome obstacles.
My lessons are catered to a wide range of students, from those just beginning their academic journey to those in advanced degree programs. Whether it's learning the basics of math, or exploring the complexities of computer science, I am confident in my ability to provide supportive, effective tutoring to students of all levels.
