About Julian
Hi! I’m Julian, a musician and composer based in the Hudson Valley, NY, where I write, produce, and perform music for film, media, and theater. My music has been used in theater and media productions around the globe, including New York City, India, Hong Kong, South Africa, Australia, and Dubai. If you watch enough unscripted telly, you’ve probably inadvertently heard my work. Theater credits include: The Peculiar Tale… (Composer) (2019 Festival Of New Musicals, Goodspeed Opera House); Snow Way Out (Composer) (York Theatre Developmental Reading Series); QuizBowl (formerly Academia Nuts) (Composer) (Winner: Best New Musical, 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival); Spandex (Composer) (777 Theatre, New York). Before relocating to New York to study musical theater writing, I toured internationally with top UK tribute band Abba Forever, and with 70s crooners Smokie. I played keyboards, sang, and hosted for the world-famous Cafe Wha? Band in Greenwich Village, NYC for eight years before the pandemic struck and forced my skinny jeans into storage.

Whatever the topic, my teaching is centered around the student, crafting a personalized learning pathway based on their needs, interests, and aspirations. By incorporating more of the student in the lesson my aim is to ensure engagement and motivation every week. All lessons are designed to foster creativity, build confidence, and promote a sense of accomplishment.

My 10 years old daughter has been with Julian since 2001 learning to play Piano. She loves learning from him and refused to have a different teacher when Julian left the music schoolShe instantly connected with him when we switched from in center to online right when covid started.
We had to get special permission from school so she can follow him for private lessons and has made great progress. We hear the maturity in her music learning from the expert. He is very patient with kids and does his best to accomodate the scheduling requests. We are grateful that Shiza can continue to learn from him!
We have been taking piano lessons with Julian for almost five years...yes, he is that amazing! Julian is an excellent teacher who is responsible, professional, encouraging, very easy to work with, and wonderful at inspiring creativity. We love that Julian not only teaches our daughter piano, but also teaches her how to compose music. He has a great rapport with our daughter and makes her feel valued and respected. Under Julian’s tutelage, our daughter has become a confident piano player. Our daughter looks forward to each lesson with Julian. Details
Lessons can be 30 or 60 minutes in length (30m is recommended for younger students and beginners). Students will be required to purchase a lesson book to work from, although from time to time I will provide fully licensed sheet music to work from.
