About Mathew
I am currently enrolled in Simon Fraser University and am working towards a bachelor's in psychology. My previous experience volunteering at the learning center "Kumon" - where I answered questions and tutored students in mathematics - as well as my position as a volunteer at the Port Moody Recreation Centre, sets me apart from other candidates as they have afforded me the attributes of patience, compassion, and warmth that are necessary to occupy this tutoring role successfully.

My involvement - both as a student and a volunteer - with the tutoring program "Kumon" has provided me with familiarity and knowledge concerning different teaching methodologies, some of which proved effective while others unproductive. This familiarity with "Kumon" has taught me that learner-centered and interactive methods of teaching prove to be the most reliable and fruitful strategies in regard to learning. My emphasis when tutoring will be on working with students and ensuring that they feel confident enough tackling questions on their own. Furthermore, when a student should ask a question I will not simply give them the answer but rather slowly go through the problem, recognize gaps in their knowledge, and work to strengthen skills that prove difficult to the student.
