About Marcus
I didn’t always find Maths and Physics easy. Up to National 5, my grades were fairly average and I often spent a lot of time studying without feeling that the subject had really clicked. At Higher, I completely changed the way I approached revision. Instead of repeatedly practising questions I already knew how to do, I started challenging myself with the hardest problems first, identifying where I went wrong and then working backwards until I understood the method properly.
That change helped me achieve 92% in my Higher Maths exam, followed by straight As in Higher and Advanced Higher Maths and Physics. I later went on to study Civil Engineering at the University of Glasgow.
I want to tutor because I know first-hand that struggling with Maths or Physics does not mean you are incapable of doing well. Often, it is about finding a way of studying that actually works for you. I want to help students develop that understanding, confidence and problem-solving approach for themselves.

I’ve always found that the best way to understand Maths and Physics is by working through examples rather than simply memorising formulae. My lessons focus on explaining the underlying concept clearly, followed by step-by-step worked examples and plenty of practice questions.
I adapt each lesson to the student’s level and pace, focusing on areas they find most difficult and building confidence through repetition and exam-style questions. As a Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Glasgow, I use Maths and Physics regularly and can also show how these concepts apply in real engineering situations. I offer tutoring from National 5 through Higher to Advanced Higher level.
