• 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  I’m passionate about French because it’s more than just a language, it’s a way to connect with different cultures, perspectives, and people. Living in Canada, where French is such an important part of the country’s identity, has made it especially meaningful for me. I enjoy how learning French opens up opportunities, whether academically, professionally, or socially. I also find it very rewarding to see progress over time, both in my own learning and in helping others improve their skills.

• 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

  From a young age, I developed a strong passion for languages, shaped in large part by my multicultural background. Being of Chinese, Vietnamese, and Croatian/Serbian heritage, I was exposed to multiple languages and cultures early on. Growing up in Canada also meant that both English and French were naturally part of my environment, which further deepened my interest in language learning.

• 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  What I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students build confidence and achieve goals. I adapt my teaching style to meet each student’s unique needs, recognizing that every learner is different. I’m patient, encouraging, and focused on creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions. What makes me a strong tutor is my ability to explain concepts clearly, relate to students’ challenges, and stay committed to their progress. I always check in multiple times during lessons to ensure understanding, and if something isn’t clear, I explain it in different ways until it clicks, I don’t move on until my students confirm that they understand.

• 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  I was fortunate to have many great role models who inspired my passion for teaching and languages. In particular, I had several phenomenal teachers who were not only knowledgeable, but also demonstrated the communication skills, adaptability, and insight needed to be effective educators. They had a strong ability to explain complex concepts clearly and to pinpoint where students were struggling. I especially admired how motivated they were and how they saw it as their responsibility to ensure students truly understood the material. As a language learner, I was able to observe the way they structured their lessons, as well as the specific strategies, tools, and techniques they used to support learning. I have since modeled many aspects of my own teaching on these approaches.

• 5) What are your keys to success?

  My keys to success are adaptability, clear communication, and continuous improvement. I regularly check in with students, encourage feedback, and adjust my approach based on their needs. By explaining concepts clearly and staying responsive, I’m able to better support student learning while continuing to grow as an educator and tutor!
