About Jared
I started playing chess around the age of 5 with my grandpa. I’ve always loved math and helping other students succeed. I tutored mostly math through middle school and high school, and after graduation I began tutoring for a private school called Gorman K–12. I’ve taught both one-on-one and in classrooms, mostly elementary and middle-school students. I’ve always loved seeing the lightbulb turn on when an idea clicks in their mind — that’s what makes teaching fun for me, seeing them improve and gain confidence.
I’m a US Chess Tournament Director (TD) with Safe Play certification and school background clearance, so lessons are safe and structured. I focus on the fundamentals — openings, tactics, endgames, clock management — and I tailor each lesson to the student’s level. I also help kids get ready for tournaments while keeping lessons engaging and practical.
Outside of chess, I did MMA for several years, so I understand the importance of having a coach and a community to stay disciplined. I bring that same mindset to teaching chess: clear goals, steady progress, and a supportive environment. Whether your student is just starting or preparing to compete, I want them to enjoy the game and improve every step of the way.

Perfect! John Reese loved his lesson and is looking forward to learning more skills and increasing his confidence.
- John Reese was amazing at detecting threats and defending according. Two things he can improve is his knowledge of oppenings and decision making under time pressure.Jared's response :
