My approach to tutoring is to create a relaxed environment for the tutee to learn best. I usually go through material using diagrams and sketches prior to using past paper questions or mock questions to probe the understanding of the topic from the students. This allows me assess the understanding of the topic whether further work is required or can move on to the next topic.
Having a PhD in Chemistry I have the knowledge to apply to the A level Chemistry specification but maybe approach some of the topics differently trying to enable the student to acquire the knowledge they require to achieve the desired grades. I am very adaptable and like to discuss with student and parents whether there is any way they feel like they can utilise me in a more productive way.
I have tutored A level Chemistry and have experienced both AQA and OCR exam board. Having tutored the same student through both years of his Alevels I thoroughly enjoyed watching his knowledge of chemistry improve and him become more confident in the content.
