I understand the need to be flexible when it comes to tutoring as every student has their own preference. I like instilling structure into my lessons to make sure you get the most return on your investment.
Typically I like starting with theory to ensure you are comfortable with the material. Afterwhich, I believe true proficiency comes from practice so we will be working on a lot of practice questions together.
