About Lauren
My name is Lauren Rand. I would label my profession as a “calling”. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Special Education and later earned a Master’s Degree at Central Connecticut State University also in Special Education. Over my 15+ years in the public and private school system I have worked alongside mostly middle and high school students with a wide range of learning challenges while developing a study skills curriculum and having the opportunity to teach a variety of content area subjects at the secondary level.
While running my own learning coaching business I expanded my knowledge base to better include both certification and experience working with young adults where English is not their first language. My passion to provide coaching for those along their learning journey has provided opportunities for me to work at the community college level. I believe that understanding our support system and strengths is important for success.

My learning coaching approach combines the best practices of coaching and teaching I am able to guide students on their learning journey. I can either integrate study skill lessons into the content area of a pre-teen or teen's academic lesson or a separate lesson. I have developed modules where students can learn about:
1. Time management
2. Organization of materials and space
3. Learning preferences – what does it mean?
4. Effective and efficient studying
5. Memory strategies
6. Metacognition – let’s get META about thinking
7. Resilience and grit- how to find courage, hope and strength
to try again after failure
We will focus on how to integrate these skills into school and daily lives. Students will leave prepared with “tools” in their toolbox.
