About Alyona
I am a BC Certified Teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry from UBC and several years of experience working with students through private tutoring and classroom teaching. I have taught and tutored students of all ages in chemistry, biology, math, and general science.
I genuinely enjoy teaching and helping students feel more confident in subjects that may initially seem challenging or overwhelming. My goal is to make learning as clear, engaging, and stress-free as possible while helping students develop the skills they need to succeed independently.
Every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to their individual needs. I like to explain concepts in multiple ways, use practical examples and hands-on activities when possible, and make sure students understand why something works rather than simply memorizing it. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities.

My lessons are personalized to each student’s needs, goals, and learning style. I like to begin by identifying areas where the student feels confident and areas where they may need additional support. From there, we work through concepts together using clear explanations, examples, and plenty of practice.
I place a strong emphasis on working through practice problems, especially in math and science. I find that students often understand a concept much more deeply once they have had the opportunity to apply it themselves. We will work through problems step-by-step, discuss different ways of approaching them, and gradually build toward more challenging questions.
My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to make sure they understand how and why they arrived at it. I encourage students to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and develop the confidence to tackle similar problems independently.
