About Melissa
After being nominated for an Irene Ryan Award in acting and graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Theater/Communications, I spent time working in publicity and public relations within Philadelphia's arts community. Upon earning my Certificate in English (7-12), I taught Middle and High School in brick-and-mortar schools for six years and virtually for another six years. I have crafted courses and content for learners at all levels from sixth through twelfth grade. Being a teacher has been incredibly fulfilling and I love what I do.

"Why do I have to know this?" Some teachers become frustrated or upset at this question; I am GLAD you are asking that question! Students who want to know the "why?" are the inquisitive students who are looking for meaningful opportunities to connect what they are learning to their world and their experiences: the real learning. It's this kind of learning that lasts and makes a difference in our lives; it's the kind of learning that inspires me to teach. Not only am I okay with asking "Why?" I believe I should be prepared to help answer that for you. I chose English as my area of expertise for a reason and I am passionate about reading, writing, literature, theater, poetry, and great storytelling. I use methods and learning techniques personally geared for the student and the type of learner they are, and provide creative, student-centered lessons with interactive elements that ask students to think deeply instead of repeat information. To answer the big question: Why should I be your tutor? Because my love of learning and teaching inspires me to connect and share my subject with students in a way that models true life-long learning and the dedication that says I believe it is worthwhile.
