About Thomas
I am a certified teacher in English and have taught in public schools and in college for 25 years. I have a B.A. in English from Wayne State University and an M.A. in English from Marygrove College. I have taught classes as large as 35 students, as well as tutored one-on-one. My expertise lies in essay and research writing at a college and high school. I also am adept in American and English literature. I am a published author of a novel, WHEN THE SWAN SINGS ON HASTINGS about 1950s Detroit. Therefore, not only have I taught Creative Writing, I have lived it.

Meeting the student where they are at is one the most important aspects of successful teaching which I abide by. This does not mean to lessen the rigor or lower the standard, but every student learns differently and are at different levels and must be dealt with accordingly. I believe in allowing the student to think actively and engage actively in a lesson void of the "teacher/preacher" lecturing to the "student/drone." A student must feel like they own their learning and their success is a collaboration of a teacher/student dynamic.
