About Sean
I've spent my career figuring out how language actually works in people's heads—first through my MA in Translation Studies at Nottingham, then by teaching in seven different countries and learning what helps multilingual students succeed.
What drives me is the moment when something finally clicks. I've worked with students who were told they "just aren't good at English" or who froze on every test despite knowing the material. The problem usually isn't effort or intelligence—it's that nobody taught them how to think through language problems systematically.
I got into teaching because I grew up navigating multiple languages myself and saw how much bad instruction can hold people back. Now I focus on test preparation and academic English for families where English isn't the only language at home. I understand the specific challenges that come with that, and I know how to address them without making students feel like their multilingual background is a weakness.
When I'm not teaching, I'm usually reading about cognitive science or figuring out better ways to explain things that traditional methods make unnecessarily complicated.

I don't teach English the way most tutors do. Instead of memorising grammar rules and hoping they stick, my students learn to think in English—understanding why the language works the way it does.
My approach is built on metacognitive methods: I teach students how to monitor their own comprehension, break down unfamiliar problems, and self-correct. This means the skills transfer beyond our lessons into real academic and test situations.
I hold an MA in Translation Studies from the University of Nottingham and a Texas Bilingual Educator certification. I've taught English across seven countries, working with students from diverse language backgrounds. I specialise in standardised test preparation (Duolingo English Test, IELTS, TOEFL) and academic English for multilingual families.
Lessons are typically 50-60 minutes online. I work with teenagers and adults preparing for university admissions, as well as younger bilingual children developing academic English alongside their home language. Every lesson is adapted to how you actually learn—not a one-size-fits-all script.
