About Jessica
I'm a passionate and approachable English undergraduate at the University of Cambridge. My experience of successfully applying to one of the world's top universities has made me eager to help other students secure a place at the university of their dreams, whether that be through GCSE and A-Level tutoring, or aiding the process of writing personal statements and taking admissions tests. Having achieved 10 GCSEs at grade 9 in 2022, I went on to sit my A-Levels in June 2024, best placing me to teach content for a specification that remains fresh in my mind. I achieved 3 A*s in AQA Biology, AQA Psychology and OCR English Literature, as well as an A* (50/50 marks) in EPQ. In my English exams, I scored 199/200 marks! Before coming to University, I was Head Girl at my sixth form, giving me experience communicating effectively with younger members of the student body. As part of the role, I tutored GCSE Biology and English Literature weekly for two years and ran the KS3 book club. But it's not all about the academics! I'm also passionate about running, cycling, baking and even volunteered at a turtle sanctuary in Sri Lanka last summer!

For KS3, GCSE and A-Level students, I like to tailor my tutoring style to the needs of the learner, accommodating their individual needs and the grade they're working towards. I encourage students to take an active role in the tutoring sessions, asking questions and setting independent tasks to further their understanding and develop skills, rather than just rote learning. As part of this ethos, I teach responsively; the student guides the flow of the session, with me ready to offer help, my own interpretation of texts and answer any questions. This works especially well with the 60 minute sessions that I offer, as I find that students can stay focused without burning out, but at the same time have opportunity to cover ample ground. Beyond teaching subject content, I like to give my tutees helpful revision strategies and insights that I learned as a student, helping them to master the mark scheme and maximise the efficiency of their revision. It's worth noting that for students who are new to a particular subject, or are especially struggling, I tend to take a more directive approach and am more immediately forthcoming with the answers that an examiner might expect. I find that this is the quickest way to improve their grades and, once they're working at a level they're happy with, we can focus on skills development
