About Oliver

Hi,

My name is Ollie I'm a penultimate year medical student at the University of Cambridge, born and raised in South London! Mentoring has always been a big part of my life - both on the giving and receiving end. I am passionate about inspiring the Gen Zers and Gen Alphas of our society to fulfill their potentials, no matter what it may be.

I have four primary areas of expertise:

1) As a medical student, I have had formal education in the sciences and mathematics. I also have a 1st-class degree in Sociology from the University of Cambridge and I am equipped to teach more advanced social theory, with a particular focus on class structure in Britain and the sociology of health and disease.

2) I have attained a DipABRSM in Piano Performance (Romantic era is my niche!) and love working with young musicians.

3) Admissions tests are as much about attitude as they are about aptitude. I have had extensive experience mentoring students for 11+, Oxbridge and medicine entrance exams and interviews and really enjoy working with students to overcome what can seem as very daunting challenges.

4) As former Senior Editor of the newspaper Varsity Publications Ltd. and the Founder and President Emeritus of Cambridge Black Medics Society I have had extensive leadership and public speaking engagements. My work with these groups led to me winning the 2021 United Nations Millennium Fellowship and I spent more time learning "life skills" from successful politicians, academics and leaders in the United Nations. I learned many lessons that are applicable to people of all ages from all backgrounds on how to achieve one's goals.

My tutoring/mentoring experience has thus far been with schools (Langley Park School for Boys), charities (MindFull) and access groups (Target Oxbridge). I also spent a year teaching mathematics at a primary school in South London (Cherry Orchard School) before I began my medical studies.

My style of tutoring varies depending on the young person I am working with. Some students enjoy a more dialectical and conversational topic-based session where I augment and expand on their own work. Whereas others prefer to stick closely to exam board specifications and enjoy focused past paper practice to ace the exams. While these are the tools I use, my focus is always ensuring my students fully understand the basics/fundamentals of a topic and I like to set and assess our tutoring goals at regular intervals.
