About Ophelia

I graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge with a degree in Classics and have been teaching online for the past 7 years. Over the years I have aided students with interview and exam prep for schools such as Westminster, Harrow and Henrietta Barnet, as well as Oxford and Cambridge with great success. My main focus is building confidence in the candidate so that they are able to handle any scenario and respond in calm, mature and erudite manner, as well as providing some go-to topics of discussion that they can confidently approach.
I have also had students studying GCSE and A level English and Latin that have gone on to do well. My approach is simple. I try to make sessions engaging and full of content, teaching my students the skills to be able to think critically and cope on their own. I find the approach that suits the student individually, whether they are struggling, excelling and needing a final push or have learning disabilities.
More recently I have taken on work teaching homeschooled students a range of humanities subjects, so that they will be able to pass their GCSEs and A Levels but also have a more well-round education.

About the lesson

I take a tailored approach to learning dependent entirely on the individual and what they respond to, helping them find the easiest way to achieve the highest grades possible. Focused on supporting, encouraging and building the confidence of my students.

UK exam systems (including the 11+) are very predictable and I fundamentally believe that ANYONE can be taught exactly how to obtain a high grade. I have had students go from obtaining 20% in 11+ Maths to 80% in the space of a few months.

Most 11+ students tend to have difficulty on the verbal reasoning/ English comprehension side of the exam, which is largely due to the decline of literacy in the UK. Thus, depending on the student, we focus a lot of time on gaining literacy skills and expanding their vocabulary, which other teachers often neglect on the presumption that it is the easiest part - it's often not.

Ophelia did wonders with my daughter preparing her for her 11+ . Not only did I see Annabelle’s knowledge and confidence grow rapidly she also really enjoyed her sessions. I was a little dubious about zoom tutoring at first as we had tried different face to face tutors in the past but Ophelia had Annabelle very engaged and it worked so well. Ophelia quickly acknowledged Annabelle’s areas of weakness and also sent out some extra activities to help so we could carry on supporting my daughter outside of her sessions. I would highly recommend Ophelia as a tutor , we saw a significant difference in confidence and my daughter passed with a fantastic mark.
