About Giovannia
I moved to the United States at fifteen years old from Cape Verde and I fell in love with chemistry in high school, although I was curious about pursuing a job in physics as well.
I ended up pursuing an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Rhode Island College and graduated within three years.
I am currently attending Brown University for my doctorate and I am just wrapping up my third year!
I am bilingual and speak fluent Portuguese and Cape Verdean creole. I would love to work with any students, especially underrepresented students as I can relate to the struggles and would love nothing more than to help!
I have tutoring experience since my undergrad career and have also tutored chemistry and biochemistry during grad school.
My other hobbies besides science includes music (singing and piano), drawing, playing video games, and spending time with my family dog.

My first approach as a tutor is figuring out the best teaching method for the tutees!
Some students are visual learners, or they better understand through the use of analogies. We would figure this out together!
I would then work with the student on identifying their strengths and weaknesses.
A lesson plan where the student would benefit the most from their session/time with me would be assessed.
I have experience tutoring college students in introductory chemistry and physics courses during my undergrad career, but I am also comfortable tutoring students at a high school level!
