About Elise
I am an experienced law, SQE, academic writing and university applications tutor with over 7 years of tutoring experience. I have supported students across school, university and professional-exam levels, including IB students, undergraduate law students, SQE candidates and university applicants.
I am a law graduate from Sciences Po Paris, where I completed a Law Degree in Global Business Law and Governance with Columbia University, achieving First Class Honours. I then continued my legal studies at BPP University and passed SQE1 in the top quintile. I also hold a dual undergraduate degree in Political Science and Social Sciences from Sciences Po Paris and Freie Universität Berlin, and achieved 43 points in the International Baccalaureate.
I began tutoring in 2018 with Lanterna Education and have since continued privately with students in law, SQE preparation, IB History, English Language and Literature, German, French, Extended Essay support and university applications. I have also worked as a teaching assistant at Columbia University and taught at the Goethe-Institut.
I have worked with over 30 students on university applications, including personal statements, application essays, interview preparation and academic positioning. My students often come to me when they have strong ideas but need help turning them into clear, structured, persuasive and high-quality written work.
My legal background includes professional experience in commercial litigation, corporate law, funds, regulatory work and cross-border legal matters in London, Paris and Hong Kong. This allows me to support students not only with academic law, but also with understanding how legal reasoning, writing and analysis are used in practice.
I provide a personalised one-to-one service tailored to each student’s level, goals and deadlines. My approach is structured, encouraging and results-focused. I help students build confidence, improve clarity, develop stronger arguments and understand exactly what examiners, admissions tutors or markers are looking for.

For law students, I focus on helping students understand the substance of the law while also improving how they write and apply it. This includes building clear arguments, structuring essays, answering problem questions, using authorities effectively, improving critical analysis and writing in a concise, persuasive academic style.
For SQE students, I focus on black-letter law, revision strategy, multiple-choice technique, identifying common traps, time management and building a realistic study plan. Having passed SQE1 in the top quintile, I understand how demanding the exam can be and help students approach it in a structured and manageable way.
For university applicants, I help students shape strong personal statements and application essays. I have supported over 30 students with university applications and focus on helping each applicant present their academic interests, achievements and motivation in a clear, convincing and authentic way.
For IB students, I help with essay structure, argument development, source analysis, exam technique and Extended Essay planning. I have particular experience in IB History, English Language and Literature, German and French.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes. I also offer 90-minute sessions for essay planning, SQE preparation, application support, coursework review or intensive exam preparation.
My style is interactive and practical. I do not simply give students answers; I guide them through the reasoning process so they understand how to improve independently. Where useful, I work through examples, essay plans, problem questions, extracts of written work, mock exam answers or application drafts during the session.
