About Joseph
I am a Masters student studying Bioinformatics (Computational Biology) with an Undergraduate Degree in Biochemistry. Shortly I will be starting a PhD in Cancer Drug Discovery. I have a qualification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which has provided classroom experience. My current specific Biology tutoring experience has been around a younger sibling, however I have participated in aiding current Undergraduates with their studies in Biochemistry. I will also be supervising a research project for an Undergraduate student. I enjoy the interaction and teaching, so I want to apply this to tutoring!

I tend to use a guided problem solving method in my explanations, giving the students the tools to achieve the answer and understanding. I have found this to be much more effective than simply trying to explain the science. I also like to be prepared, knowing what we are going to tackle ahead of the session. This makes the most efficient use of time and is more conducive to a better learning experience! Flexibility is also key, sometimes a general discussion as opposed to a rigid lesson plan is more beneficial in teaching science.
