About Maritza

I’m a passionate, bilingual educator with more than 42 years of experience teaching Spanish and English to students of all ages. I graduated in Colombia and have spent the last six years teaching in the United States, where I continue to share my love for languages and cultures. My students describe me as energetic, creative, and encouraging. I believe that every learner can succeed when lessons are clear, engaging, and connected to their real lives. Whether in person or online, I create a positive space where mistakes are seen as opportunities to grow. My goal is to help you gain confidence and communicate naturally, not just memorize rules. I’ll guide you every step of the way — with enthusiasm, humor, and dedication.

About the lesson

With over 42 years of experience teaching Spanish and English, I’ve learned that learning happens best when it feels natural, joyful, and meaningful. My approach is “making the difficult easy” — through creative, engaging, and interactive lessons that connect language to real-life situations.

A typical lesson starts with a short conversation or warm-up in Spanish, followed by guided practice using visuals, songs, short readings, or fun mini-projects. I adapt each session to your level — from beginners discovering the basics to advanced learners polishing their fluency and confidence.

What sets me apart is my ability to combine language and culture. Students don’t just learn Spanish grammar — they discover Hispanic music, traditions, and expressions that make the language come alive. I teach in person and online, offering a free first online class to assess your level and goals.

Both of my children have been so fortunate to learn from Maestra Maritza. She first taught my youngest in our local dual language elementary program, and we were thrilled when she moved up to the middle school to continue teaching Spanish Language Arts for dual language learners. Her dedication, expertise, and ability to make learning fun have truly helped my kids thrive in Spanish—my oldest is now speaking with a high level of fluency, and my younger son is becoming more and more confident by the day. She’s a highly qualified teacher with a wonderful sense of humor, and it’s clear that her students love learning with her. Anyone who has the opportunity to take her classes (online or in person) will be in great hands.
