About Aaram

Hi! I grew up all over the United States so I have a unique experience in terms of American accents and cultures. I lived in New York, the South, and have spent the last twenty years in California. I studied Cultural Anthropology at UC Berkeley then worked in architecture, studied history after that, then electronic systems and trains. I am currently studying to work as a cultural photographer and taking up Spanish in my spare time. I love meeting new people and learning what their interests are and what they want to do with their lives. I also just love hearing about other cultures and what life is like where they live. I love the outdoors, backpacking here in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, swimming in our beautiful beaches, biking around San Francisco, and of course traveling to other countries when I can. I loooove animals! I can't walk past a dog without saying hi. When I'm not reading books or watching movies I'm with friends and family or exploring a new city in California. Looking forward to meeting you and starting your journey into American English and culture!

About the lesson

I like to know as much about your individual learning preferences. To me how you learn new subjects best is as important as the quality of the material being taught and by whom. I also believe learning new material works best when you interact with it with as many tools as you have (eyes, ears, voice, hands etc.). Knowing your goals for language acquisition is also helpful for me and yourself. Besides the general language itself, I will do my best to show you American culture through slang, traditions, fashion, music, entertainment, history, food, drink and more. I will also take my students around California with me as I travel, showing you places like UC Berkeley, beaches, San Francisco and other sites where we can have our lesson through video. My lessons are open to anyone of all skill levels and goals. Hopefully together we can transcend any limitations you may feel from distance learning. In this way I hope to share with you not just the American English language but the culture(s) the language exists in. I don't have a typical lesson plan because it will be custom designed depending on the individual, their learning preferences, schedule, goals, interests etc. But it will start with finding out their goals, language level, time they intend to commit to learn, work schedule and more. From there I will design a curriculum and test it out with them to see if it works. I will alter anything that isn't working and adjust as we progress.
