About Nevaeh
My name is Nevaeh Thompson, and I’m a mixed media artist working mainly in charcoal, painting, and watercolor. I focus on realism, especially still life and portraiture, and I’ve been featured in exhibitions, publications, and community art projects. I’ve completed multiple art appreciation courses and advocated for mental illnesses through the Herald Tribune as a child. I also have a personal interest in art therapy, which inspires my approach to teaching art.

My teaching approach is about helping students find their own originality and artistic voice. Even in realism and still life, everyone sees things differently, and that’s what makes art personal and unique.
I want lessons to feel collaborative and comfortable, a space where students can experiment, grow, and feel more confident in their creative choices. I’m not trying to teach one “correct” way to draw. I’m here to give advice and techniques that help students develop their own style and perspective.
I usually focus on one project at a time so students can really build their ideas and leave with finished charcoal pieces they feel proud of.
A Typical Lesson
We talk about previous work, ideas, and long-term goals.
I demonstrate charcoal techniques, share advice for still life and portrait work, and sometimes watch art videos with the student so we can learn, discuss techniques, and find inspiration together.
Students work on their projects while I give feedback throughout the process.
At the end, we review the piece together and discuss ways to keep developing both technique and personal style.
My goal is not to make everyone draw the same way, but to help students better understand their own artistic voice. My lessons are strictly for anyone who enjoys a collaborative and relaxed approach to learning art.
