About Emilya
I have worked for hundreds of hours tutoring AP statistics, AP calculus, chemistry, and SAT prep (high school), algebra and geometry (middle school), and various topics in elementary math. I love children and have established great relationships with the families for whom I’ve tutored! I worked in a school for a year in which I got the chance to teach small groups of students and develop curriculums for test preparation (in math and English).

I teach with an emphasis on understanding and drawing connections; I cannot emphasize this enough. With math, I believe in grounding concepts in our intuition of the physical world. Even subjects with seemingly a lot of memorization can be approached by having a bigger picture understanding of the system in order to remember the parts.
My lessons typically include problem solving sessions to diagnose weak spots, personalized explanations, and a few minutes for discussion of the goals, plans, and reflections of the student.
I make a lesson plan before the lesson to outline several potential ways of explaining or visually showing the topic, because different ways work for different students. During the lesson, we go through problems and stop when there are gaps in understanding. I try to give one or two problems for between lessons to give a sense of continuity to the students learning.
