About Rosie

I'm a really fun, bubbly teacher/coach. I'm a passionate artist, and am fascinated with how the voice works to produce singing. I love helping people discover their voice, and how to express themselves with it. 'That which cannot be said must be sung' - unknown. I'm also a certified Naturopath, and over the years I've used my interest in natural healing protocols to support healthy singing and long-term vocal health. I've found my own system to make learning fun, easy, and pragmatic. Over my 13 years of teaching, I've had the privilege to learn from many experiences working with Hollywood professionals, as well as a range of students with varied learning abilities.

Education University:
BFA Classical Voice Performance
College: Classical Voice Major
JRP Acting School
Alternative Medicine College of Canada Certified Naturopath
Currently taking a Speech and Language Pathology course. Still in progress...

Experience / Qualifications
-Teaching and coaching kids, teens, adults, and music professionals for 13 years.
-Worked with a record label under the mentorship of industry veteran Russ Regan (Marvin Gaye, Elton John, Olivia Newton-John, Frank Sinatra). -Released a number of records
-Charting radio artist (December Rose) (AC, TOP 40, and iTunes)
-Won several awards. Most recently: NMW New Artist of the Year 2020 TOP 40 category, Hollywood Music In Media Award - Best Adult Contemporary Song 2021
-Canadian JUNO Awards delegate. Judged in 2019, and 2021.
-Coach artists in studio, and help them start/finish music projects.
-Played over 500 shows between Original Music shows and with Corporate Bands.

About the lesson

Singing: I help you discover and develop your true vocal sound. I've adapted Classical voice techniques to modern pop and contemporary singing to make it effortless. I treat the voice as an instrument, and help you train it in a way that you have freedom to sing whatever genre and style you like.

What to expect in a lesson:
-Warmups (Breathing, Posture, Diction/Pronunciation, General vocal stretching, and some specifically targeting the weak points in your voice)
-Sing me a song of your choice for me to evaluate and assess your specific weaknesses and address them with vocal protocols.
-We then break down the song into sections and address each issue head-on to find the right technical solution, right away.
-Solutions are effective, practical, and easy to use (especially with some practice).

Songwriting: I walk you through the process of writing, how to turn your feelings into words and melody, and sometimes, I write it with you! The goal is to help you better express yourself.

What to expect in a songwriting session:
-We will have some personal chats so I can help you write something therapeutic (if that is how you would like to use songwriting, otherwise we can keep it light)
-I will type out key words and phrases from our conversation.
-We will then look over all the text, and start forming lyrics with whatever stands out and inspires you.
-We will practice some improvisation, and learn some basic theory to assist with the writing.
-Then I will guide you to putting everything together into a song.

Artist Development: I work with you to help create a vision for your artist project, develop clarity of brand, musical identity, awareness of how to protect your music, and how to find purpose in your passion.

What to expect with artist development and mentorship:
-In this process, I will pretty-much become your friend. The better I know you and your interests, the better I can help you get on the right path.
-I help you organize your ideas and thoughts
-Ask you really reflective questions to identify key elements for your brand and artistry.
-I advise you around the do's and dont's of the industry, networking, looking for team, choosing your producer, collaborators, how to set yourself up as an artist, etc

Extra information
Student will need a laptop and second device to play audio to sing along with (example, Youtube karaoke tracks, or their own instrumentals). I teach over an app called Zoom. It's the best one at the moment for virtual lessons.

Piano/Music Theory:
I like to incorporate a small crash course on this to help you write songs. I offer piano and theory lessons outside of songwriting as well. Mostly for beginner and intermediate piano players.

**Please note the first lesson is not free**

Perfect! Had an introductory lesson with Rosie, explaining the anatomy of the voice. As nervous as I was, she made me feel comfortable and non-judged. Offered to give me some homework with things to work on, which shows she’s attentive to your specific situation vs a one-size-fits all approach.

Perfect! Rosie left a lasting impression on me. I loved how she incorporates holistic practices into our teaching methodologies and accommodates the strength/areas of improvement for her students. Rosie was able to help draw attention to something that has affected my capabilities to utilize my voice to its full potential, but with her help and guidance, I am surely on the right path for growth. I look forward to continuing working with her!

Rosie is a great teacher and a unique individual.

I needed a vocal coach to improve my voice during my conferences and Rosie really helped me to understand how the voice works and how to use my voice in a healthy way. Rosie is still giving my son singing lessons and he loves it. Her bubbly personality and skills really brought him to the next level. My son was always a bit shy, but things quickly changed after Rosie gave him the confidence he needed.

With Rosie it's more than a lesson, it's an experience!
