About Liz
MFA from the American Film Institute (AFI), BFA from NYU Tisch, University Film Professor, 5 years as Creative Director of Filmmaking & Cinematography at NYFA. Directed major global commercial campaigns for brands like Dove, working with talent like Halle Berry, Shonda Rhimes, and Mary J. Blige. 20+ years of active experience directing actors, shooting, and producing narrative films, commercials, and cutting-edge VR/XR projects. Founder of Performance Lab and Golden Films.
Currently teaching filmmaking at the university level. Currently coaching actors on-camera for self-tapes, guiding filmmakers through step-by-step shoot prep and physical production, and producing commercial and branded content. Built a career bridging elite academic training with real-world set leadership to give students an immediate edge in the industry.

Who the lessons are for:
I work with all ages and experience levels—from beginners taking their first steps to well-known actors and filmmakers leveling up their self-tapes and projects. Emerging directors prepping a shoot, and applicants building portfolios for elite film programs like NYU, AFI, and USC. Whether your project is a short film, a branded content piece, a scene study, or a student project, we scale the instruction directly to your goals.
Teaching method & techniques:
My pedagogy is active, hands-on, and action-oriented: you learn by doing. We don't spend hours on abstract theory—we immediately translate concepts into execution. I take you step-by-step from an initial spark of an idea all the way to a finished film. Through nurturing, guided, low-stakes exercises together in session, you build the confidence and muscle memory to execute larger assignments independently between our meetings.
A typical lesson plan:
Review & Feedback (10-15 mins): We look at the exercises or footage you worked on independently, identifying strengths and targeted fixes.
Interactive Focus & Guided Exercise (35-40 mins): Hands-on work together in real-time—whether that's staging a camera setup, running line reads and adjusting on-camera performance for a self-tape, breaking down a scene's shot list, looking for image references, preparing for a meeting with a producer or working through shoot prep logistics.
Action Plan & Next Steps (5-10 mins): You leave every session with a clear, specific exercise to execute before our next meeting so your project stays in active motion and you feel confident.
