About Samuel
My name is Samuel Colcheedas and I am a 29 year old pianist from Melbourne, Australia. I began piano at the age of 6 and still love every minute of it! I have a strong passion for teaching, composing and performing and have 12 years of teaching experience. I studied at The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under renowned pianist Caroline Almonte for 6 years and alongside this I was also studying a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
My first concert debut was at 15 year's old at Warbuton Arts Centre with cellist Joanna Tidy. Since then I have performed around Australia and internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and composer. I have also featured live on air for 3MBS (103.5FM) numerous times. Masterclasses include performances with Ursula Oppens, Geoffry Saba, Dr. Richard Shuster, Professor Ian Holtham, Igor Machlak, Stephen McIntyre and Glen Riddle. I continued further study after university in Italy where I studied composition with Dr. Andrew Rindfleisch and piano with Dr. Beruch Meir at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Northern Italy. I have completed numerous composition commissions by organisations such as The Royal Society of Victoria, The City of Melbourne and The Carlton Connect Initiative.
I love sharing my passion for music, piano, composition and the arts and have always felt that the teacher and student learn concurrently together and are equals during their educational arc.

I have extensive teaching experience of 12 years and have held positions at St. Margaret's and Berwick Grammar School, Melbourne Piano School and run a busy private studio. I teach locally in Melbourne and internationally online. I have also spent the past year studying composition and performing in Italy!
Some of my teaching methodology:
. Ergonomic technique development to support free tone production.
. Adjusting technique to relieve any physical pain when playing.
. Reinforcing the four memories when practising (aural, muscular, visual and intellectual) to learn efficiently.
. There is no need to wait until you can begin to learn your favourite pieces!
. I adapt to students' learning styles and personal goals.
. General music theory is incorporated into each lesson.
. I teach beginner students to conservatory level students (including music theory).
. Lessons from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.
Qualifications: BSci (Mechanical Engineering), AMusA (2017), DMus (2017), BMus (2019)
Languages: English, Italian (B1-B2 level)
