About Sandhya
After completing three years at the teacher’s training college in Sri Lanka, I began my carrier as a professional Art and Design teacher. Since then, over a tenure of 40 years, I have been educating and training children, teenagers and adults in various disciplines of Arts and Crafts in Dubai, Sri Lanka as well as Melbourne .
Apart from being Head of the School Art Department in Dubai, I was also the teacher and examiner for conducting the GCSE Art & Design examination of the University of London. Teaching the GCSE syllabus was a challenging as one had to know how to research artists, experiment with different media and explore different ideas and themes.
I have taught hundreds of students and the vast majority have succeeded in passing out with flying colours.
My aim is to develop the necessary basic skills to appreciate art and to let students explore their own creative potential. The motor skills acquired during this training are applicable not only in this area of painting but also transferable to other areas where delicate hand manipulation is required. People by nature enjoy learning through exploration. The basic techniques of painting are introduced by taking advantage of this behavior.
In a fast paced and fleeting world where people are all too easily distracted and stressed out, Art can be an extremely therapeutic and inspiring. It not only relaxes the mind but also stimulates growth and builds confidence.

Art is a wonderful therapy which can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from children as young as 5 years old to grandparents. Lessons are designed to focus on teaching a student the fundamentals needed by every artist i.e. basic techniques of each art form, explore the use of a variety of materials, enhance drawing skills and broaden the scope of creative possibilities
