About Michael
I am a postgraduate academic and aviation professional with an MA in Applied Security and Strategy from the University of Exeter and a BA in Aviation and Airport Management from University College Birmingham. I currently work as a Guest Lecturer at UCB, where I deliver undergraduate lectures across Aviation Management, International Hospitality and Tourism Management and Event Management.
My professional background includes security operations at London Gatwick Airport, one of the world's busiest international airports. This hands-on industry experience, combined with my academic credentials, means I bring both theoretical knowledge and real-world insight into every tutoring session.
I am passionate about making complex subjects accessible and helping students develop the analytical skills they need to succeed at university level and beyond. Whether you are working on an essay, preparing for an exam or trying to make sense of a challenging topic, I will work with you to build genuine understanding and confidence in your subject.
In addition to subject-specific tutoring, I can support students with the practical aspects of professional development. This includes personal branding, building a LinkedIn presence and developing the networking skills that are increasingly essential for graduates entering the aviation and security sectors. Many universities now include professional development modules alongside academic content and I am well placed to help students navigate both.

My approach to tutoring is conversational and analytical rather than prescriptive. I work with students to develop critical thinking and help them form well-reasoned arguments. I ask questions, challenge assumptions and encourage students to engage with real-world events as a way of understanding theoretical concepts. If something is happening in the world that relates to what you are studying, we will use it.
Sessions typically run for 60 minutes, though I am flexible depending on the student's needs. For students working on specific assignments or dissertations, longer sessions of 90 minutes can be arranged. Every session is tailored to the individual.
My sessions are primarily aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate university students studying Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Geopolitics, International Relations or Security Studies. I also welcome A level students studying Politics or Geography who want to develop a deeper analytical understanding of international affairs.
