About Maya
As an anthropology student, I have a deep love for culture and a keen interest in societal development. Arts and writing allow this information to be preserved for future generations to remember, and studying and practicing these forms allows us to maintain a tradition of cultural preservation and keeps our reality alive to the future. I have always loved the arts, really delving into creative writing as a kid and also developing a passion for dance, visual arts, and music. I am a singer outside of my career and academic ventures, and also write a lot of creative, personal pieces on my own time.
I am currently completing my Bachelor's degree at Binghamton University online. Once finished, I am actually looking to attend nursing school and become a forensic nurse! However, art and writing will forever remain as the backbone of my career.

I have an understanding that sometimes doing what you enjoy is the best way to learn something. I am not one to force specific curriculum on students, and will tailor my plan based on personal interests. I work best with late elementary school students (3rd to 5th grade), middle school, and high school students.
We will specifically review analyze excerpts and novels to better familiarize ourselves with grammar and punctuation systems, use of descriptive mechanisms and the art of "showing, not telling", and relate these texts to the real world. Then, work on a few examples of our own! I want students to become more comfortable and confident with their creative writing and ideas.
